Sandburg Volleyball Blows Away Bobcats in Postseason Opener

The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team opened the postseason in dominant fashion, sweeping Bryant & Stratton 25-11, 25-17, 25-12 in the quarterfinals of the Region IV Division II District B tournament Monday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
The fourth-seeded Chargers (8-8) hit .329 for the match against the No. 5 seed Bobcats and advance to play at top-seeded Kankakee in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Sandburg had five players record at least five kills, led by eight from freshman Carley Reeves-Eakins (Branson, Mo./Reeds Spring), who also tied Kelsey Hobson (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) for the team lead with 11 digs.
Gracie Rademaker (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) and Annie McKim (Yates City, Ill./homeschooled) each had seven kills, while Jerzi Johnson (Monmouth, Ill./United) and Megan Crome (Marshall, Ill./Marshall) had five kills apiece.
Setter Carmyn Baldwin (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) had 22 assists before giving way to Laney Chiaravalle (Peoria, Ill./Limestone), who had seven assists and three aces in the third set for Sandburg.
The Chargers raced to a 9-2 lead in the first set and took control of the second set with a 5-0 run to go ahead 21-13. Sandburg won the opening 11 points of the third set in route to finishing off the sweep.
